The Paul Pereira CEO of MHG’s is excited to debut the world’s first ever certified biodegradable plastic freshwater fishing lure at ICAST , which will take place from July 14 to 17 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
At the event, MHG will be giving out 150 lures that have been made with MHG’s Nodax™ PHA. These lures can be used for freshwater fishing and have been tested to perform just as well as its plastic counterpart. The nationally recognized tackle company that produced these lures will be named at the Conference.
ICAST is the world’s largest sportfishing trade show, where leading companies in the industry showcase the latest innovations in fishing gear, accessories and apparel. The conference includes several events, seminars and press conferences. ICAST also includes a lure tank, which showcases the latest in hard and soft lures where attendees can analyze how the lures perform underwater.
“As an avid fisherman, I’ve seen firsthand the plastic pollution in the ocean. When you think of all the fisherman out there, and how many lures get lost each season, it is hard to think of all that plastic that will sit in the ocean for hundreds of years to come. The same thing applies to fresh water fishing but in a larger scale,” remarked Pereira, CEO and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors. “With these biodegradable lures powered by MHG, pollution that is a result of the fishing industry can be reduced.”
MHG’s PHA is the first bioplastic ever to be Vinçotte Certified for Marine Biodegradability. It is also certified to biodegrade completely in freshwater, as well as soil and industrial composting. These certifications pave the way for the fishing industry to convert to using biodegradable plastic for certain products.
“MHG has been driving towards this for a long time. Producing a lure that is biodegradable makes an outdoor sport I enjoy, better for everyone and the environment,” stated Scott Tuten, Chief Marketing Officer of MHG.
