SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation’s California Great-Basin Region announced today the selection of Dr. Joshua Israel as the new Science Division Manager for the Bay-Delta Office. This new position will increase support for the region’s science efforts.
“Advancing reliable science is critical to continuing to improve the operation of the Central Valley Project and adapting our practices to meet our fish and wildlife, water supply, and power generation project purposes into the future,” said David Mooney, manager for the Bay-Delta Area Office. “Josh’s record on leading teams to develop and apply collaborative approaches to meet the needs of fish and wildlife makes him ideally suited to this role.”
Dr. Israel will provide support to the Bay-Delta Office Manager on managing the complex interagency and intergovernmental activities for the operation of coordinated state and federal facilities, as well as Reclamation’s restoration and recovery responsibilities. The Bay-Delta Office partners with other federal, state, and local agencies; water and power stakeholders; the environmental community; and the public to address ongoing and emerging priorities.
“Reclamation has been a leader in promoting improved monitoring, decision support tools, and integrating water operations, habitat restoration, facility improvements, and hatcheries into fisheries management,” said Dr. Israel. “I am excited to continue my efforts in this new position.”
Dr. Israel began his career with Reclamation in 2010 in Sacramento as a fish biologist and then as a supervisory natural resource specialist at the Bay-Delta Office. In addition to his experience at Reclamation, he served as an AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Program Corps member.
Dr. Israel holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis.
