SACRAMENTO, Ca. – In the weeks prior to the 2015 Coors Light Future Pro Tour’s final event of the season – the “Capitol City Showdown”, there were “rumblings” from many that it was going to be very difficult to catch fish – let alone bring in a limit of fish, on the Sacramento River.
But come game day, a large percentage of the participating anglers quickly found out – first hand, that the Sacramento river system is truly one of northern California’s most productive bass fisheries, and gained a new appreciation for what the fishery has to offer, as nearly 90% of the field caught fish, and nearly half of the field brought limits of fish to the scales.
But defending 2014 Coors Light Future Pro Tour Classic Champions Danny Cross and Duggan Wilson clearly wanted to send a message to the field of over 70 teams – and it’s “doubters”, that their capture of last year’s championship crown was not just a “fluke”, as they won the event in dominating fashion with a 5-fish limit that weighed 16.12 pounds, and took home $2,200 for their efforts.
Both Duggan and Danny indicated that they are looking to “repeat” in the 2015 Classic event, and look forward to next year’s competition.
Congratulations guys on a well-deserved victory!
The team of “Sugar” Shane Perison and Austin Wilson took second place honors with a 13.90 pound five-fish limit good for $1,300, and also made a good run at the coveted Coors Light Silver Bullet Angler of the Year titles – only to come up short by only a few points. Both Shane and Austin indicated that this would be their final year fishing the FPT, and are both looking forward to applying the knowledge they have gained from the tour to higher level venues.
Shane and Austin… we wish you both the best of luck, as it has been a pleasure having you as “upper classmen” of the tour, and we are very proud of you as you “step up” to a higher level of competition.
Father and son team – Cliff/Colby King capture Coors Light “Silver Bullet” Anglers of the Year title
Having fished the FPT with his son since its inaugural event in 2003, you can believe that Cliff and Colby King are no strangers to both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
But a consistent grooming, teaching and quiet patience with his then six-year-old son, has paid off in a big way – as this year, Cliff and his now 19-year old son Colby, finished out what certainly has been their best season to date, posting an outstanding final-event performance on the Sac river to capture the prestigious 2015 Coors Light “Silver Bullet” Angler of the Year title.
“We are both on cloud nine”, noted a visibly excited Cliff, as he got the official word regarding their accomplishment. We worked extremely hard against some fierce competitors – which only makes this victory that much sweeter, and I couldn’t be more proud of how good an angler, and young man Colby has become. We will cherish this for a lifetime”, he added.
For the Coors Light “Silver Bullet” Angler of the Year title Cliff and Colby will receive the custom Coors Light “Silver Bullet” trophy plus $250 cash!
As the 13th season of bringing the most exciting bass fishing events to the west rests firmly in the books, the Coors Light Future Pro Tour would like to take this time to express our sincere appreciation for the unwavering support, and patience we have received over the years from both our anglers and sponsors, which we know has been a key factor in helping this tour become the premier amateur-level bass fishing tour in the west.
To our FPT staff members, who behind-the-scenes have the often thankless job of keeping things flowing smoothly before, during, and after the events, we are especially grateful, as your commitment to excellence is an asset we could never do without.
