ProPatterns Exposed returned on April 1st, featuring Elite angler Bill Lowen. This episode brings fans to the first practice day leading up to the 2014 Bassmaster Elite at Lake Dardanelle last May. The hour-and-fifteen minute commercial free episode will be available online exclusively at www.ProPatterns.com.
Bill Lowen joins Exposed for the first time this season, offering his expertise fishing the shallow moving waters of river reservoirs like Lake Dardanelle. The 34,300-acre 50-mile-long reservoir, which sits in the Arkansas River Valley, serves as one of the top bass fisheries in the United States. Lowen, known on the trail as a seasoned “river rat”, offers tips and secrets for fishing sandbars and banks and cautions against the common mistakes lake anglers make when approaching moving bodies of water like Lake Dardanelle.
Lowen took to the water with the threat of storms and tornadoes looming. With two to four inches of rain forecast, he cautioned that faster waters and changing patterns would come with the rain.
As he traveled the lake, Lowen advised that anglers should point the boat upstream on moving water and fish into the current. “River fish are so accustomed to the current bringing the bait to them, they always set nose into the current,” Lowen explained. “The biggest mistake I see is guys fishing backwards on a river system.”
Lowen suggests moving through areas quickly during practice days, fishing fast and finding key areas that anglers can return to during tournaments to pick apart: “I don’t care if you’re on a river in Arkansas or on a river in New York, river fish are river fish wherever you go.”
Over his professional career, Lowen has fished 97 tournaments and has made 7 Classic appearances, landing in 10th place at the 2012 Classic. Lowen credits his opportunity to fish professionally to the family of his late fishing partner, Billy Backman, and dedicates every day on the water to his friend. Backman lost his life to drugs at age 21 in 2001. In 2004, the Backman family offered Lowen the chance fish professionally by sponsoring and paying his entry fees to fish the Elite series.
Always on the move and where the action is, ProPatterns ended March by attending the Mid South Tackle Hunting & Boat Show in Tulsa to promote ProPatterns Exposed with Elite anglers Chad Morgenthaler and Brian Snowden and will attend Fish Fest at Scheels in Sioux City, Iowa on April 10 & 11 with pro angler Jami Fralick to promote Exposed on DVD. Tackle Warehouse also continues its promotion of Exposed on DVD through April, offering one season at a 15% discount, two seasons at a 20% discount, and three seasons at a 30% discount.
