Cannes, France (Sept. 10, 2024) – Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), made waves at the Cannes Yachting Festival with the launch of two new Racing outboards. Alongside these high-performance engines, Mercury also announced new color options for its 150hp FourStroke and introduced an innovative mid-range Jet outboard engine.
Introducing the Mercury Racing 150R and 200R Outboards
At a special media event during the Cannes Yachting Festival, Mercury Racing debuted the highly anticipated 150R and 200R outboards. Built on a powerful V6 platform, these new engines are engineered for unbeatable torque and performance.
With a 3.4-liter displacement, the 150R and 200R focus on delivering superior acceleration and hole shot performance without the bulk of a V8. Featuring Transient Spark Technology, these outboards automatically adjust ignition timing to maximize torque, offering faster acceleration and more responsive handling. The 150R delivers up to 6000 RPM, while the 200R tops out at an impressive 6400 RPM.
Both engines are packed with the latest Mercury V6 platform innovations, including Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) for precision control. Fuel efficiency is optimized with GPS-enabled technologies such as Mercury’s Active Trim, Adaptive Speed Control, and Advanced Range Optimization, ensuring optimal performance across all RPM ranges. Unlike many competing outboards that require 89-octane fuel, the 150R and 200R run efficiently on 87-octane, helping boaters save at the pump.
Enhanced Electrical Power with a High-Capacity Alternator
Both the 150R and 200R come equipped with an 85-amp alternator—far exceeding competitors’ models, which typically offer between 44 and 55 amps. Mercury’s advanced battery management system ensures that boaters have more than enough power to support all onboard electronics without worry.
“With the 150R and 200R, Mercury Racing brings its legendary performance DNA to the V6 outboard range,” said Jeff Broman, Category Director at Mercury Racing. “These engines lead the class in bottom-end torque, and when combined with the digital features of Mercury’s V6 platform, they outshine the competition.”
Two Gearcase Options for the Mercury Racing 200R
The 200R outboard offers two distinct gearcase configurations to suit different boating needs. The 200R Torque Master, weighing 469 lbs, is optimized for competitive bass boats and performance craft in the 80 to 85 mph range. The heavier 200R Sport Master, at 489 lbs, is designed for high-speed boats that run from 85 mph to well over 100 mph. The 150R is available in 20- and 25-inch shaft lengths, while both the Torque Master and Sport Master come with a 20-inch shaft.
“In recent years, we’ve redefined innovation in the outboard market with new V8 and V10 models. Now, we’re expanding our V6 range to meet customer demand,” said John Buelow, President of Mercury Marine. “The new 150R and 200R give boaters even more options to power their adventures with cutting-edge technology and reliability.”
New Color Options for the Mercury FourStroke 150hp
This week, Mercury also revealed new color choices for the popular 150hp FourStroke outboard. In addition to the classic Phantom Black, boaters can now choose between Cold Fusion and Warm Fusion White. These color options are particularly appealing to saltwater boaters who prefer lighter colors to minimize the look of salt spray and keep the engine cooler under the sun. Plus, these new colors allow boaters to match their engines with their hull colors for a sleek, coordinated look.
Launching the All-New Mercury FourStroke 105hp Jet Engine
Expanding its mid-range lineup, Mercury introduced the FourStroke 105hp Jet outboard. Built on the same platform as the 150hp FourStroke, this new jet engine delivers 105 horsepower and leads Mercury’s jet family, which includes models from 25hp to 80hp. The 105hp Jet is perfect for boaters and anglers looking to navigate shallow waters while enjoying the dependable performance and intuitive control of Mercury’s FourStroke technology.
