Fort Worth, TX – After his wire-to-wire victory last year at the historic 50th Bassmaster Classic, Hank Cherry became the 4th angler in BASS history to win back-to-back titles.
The field dealt with the extreme Texas heat and a quick thunderstorm, quickly pushing fish into a transition. Hank remained patient as he was determined to uncover remaining life in the flooded vegetation. Secondary, he ran a pattern along the dam with a new Cherry-designed jerkbait he’s been gaining confidence in.
Bass Cat angler Chris Jones also fished a phenomenal event. Chris qualified through the 2020 Opens and finished third. Six (6) BCB anglers competed as representation was strong last week, with 5 of those Bass Cat anglers in the Top 25.
Cherry opted to run the newly updated Cougar FTD in 2021 and has come to know the boat, understanding the diversity within the Bass Cat model lineup. “Being part of the Bass Cat brand is truly a family experience. I’m very humbled and proud to be able to bring back-to-back Classic titles to the family. The Cougar FTD has plenty of storage, nice deck space and the speed needed to get my job done with no worries.”
“We are pleased he will get the opportunity to truly enjoy this one as things open up,” said Rick Pierce, President of Bass Cat & Yar-Craft Boats.
“Hank was gracious about winning the 50th Classic as the pandemic closed in. His actions and podium speech, at the 51st, say more than anything I can about the character of this man and his family. We have always been glad to have Hank on our team. Classic win or not our conversations have always been like we’ve been old friends for decades. He’s just a fit to our culture.”
Not only has Hank received his second $300,000 check in as many years, he’s also the beneficiary of the Bass Cat QUEST Tournament Rewards program, one of the most lucrative incentive programs in bass fishing. (Learn more about QUEST)
Everyone here at Bass Cat is proud to have Hank representing the brand. We look forward to a Mountain Home visit, when a staff celebration will take place, joining the men and women who built his machine.
