DOUBLE TROUBLE FOR BASS
By Jud Browder
Double rig, tandem rig, double Fluke rig, call it what you want but we call our version; Deuces Wild and when you see it work, you’ll know why. It perfectly mimics two fleeing baitfish. No doubt the double rig is deadly on schooling bass and its use is limited only by your imagination.
Most of us have had a nice fish follow the one that’s hooked. This rig cures that because it’s designed to hook them both. The first time I tied on two jerkbaits and saw it work, I knew it was going to be hard to go back to just one. It’s the most realistic technique I’ve ever seen in the water.
The Fluke is one of the most versatile baits in fishing and if you like fishing soft jerkbaits you’re going to love this rig. Properly set up, the fish will see two fleeing baitfish running parallel to each other and it triggers strikes. Give it the usual jerk and pause retrieve and watch them come alive. With each jerk, the baits dart apart flashing their underside while slowly dropping down the water column. It doesn’t just trigger strikes; it creates competition between predators and will trick big fish, sometimes two at a time!
You can use any bait on the double rig but most soft plastic jerkbaits are too stiff so I use Skippy Fish soft jerk baits. See them at www.skippyfish.com or call 610-906-3114. The
increased action has definitely increased my catch… read this and many more great articles in Bass Angler magazine 2011 issue #1
