OAKLEY, Calif. – The BAM Bass Boat Technologies Pro Tour presented by the City of Oakley readies for the season-ending Tournament of Champions (TOC) , October 25- 27, launching out of Big Break Marina in the City of Oakley on the 1000 miles of waterways of the California Delta.

Local Expert Zack Thompson Anticipates Strong Bite
Following a 30-plus day off-limits, the BAM Pro Tour anglers will blast off for the three-day event with no practice to vie for the trophy. Delta local Zack Thompson of Alameda, Calif. expects this year’s conditions to bring a good bite to the tidal water fishery.
“It’s been extra hot, later in the year, than it usually is,” Thompson noted. “So, the fall transition is delayed. I think that is what will make for better fishing.”
Two Paths to Championship Sunday: By Weight or Scorable Bass
The full field of qualifying anglers will compete the first two-days for a spot in the top-10, to earn the opportunity to fish on Day Three for Championship Sunday. The final day will see the remaining field’s weights zero-ed, so all begin the day on a level playing field.
With two ways to make Championship Sunday (top-5 in weight, and top five most scorable bass), Thompson feels strategies for either path can be employed.
“I expect there to be a lot of those smaller bass biting,” he said. “I think it will take a keeper count of 20 to 25 to make the cut; but there are a lot of the 12- to 14-inchers in the system right now and we have a 14-inch minimum.”
By weight, Thompson suspects a two-day total of 30- to 35-pounds will be necessary and although the Delta bigs may not be tugging on the end of everyone’s line, he was certain they were still ready to strike for those searching in the right spots.
“The Delta is on a different cycle and with the sea lions and the continual spraying things are a little different,” he added. “It is not that they are not there. There are still some good populations of big fish, and some guys are still getting ‘em. I think they have just transitioned to other places.”
Thompson predicts typical fall presentations to stand out and the tide to work in the angler’s favor.
“In general, it will be an incoming tide, which is good, depending on when and where in the system a guy is fishing,” he said. “I know that is what I like in fall.”
Anglers will blast off at safelight and weigh-in at 3 pm daily, beginning Friday, Oct 25. The champion will be crowned Sunday following the final weigh-in.
