BAM Pro Tour heads to the Columbia River

The Televised BAM Pro Tour Heads to Boardman Oregon – Presented by the Boardman Chamber of Commerce / Boardman Parks and Recreation

BOARDMAN, Ore. – Once again, the anglers of the BAM Tournament Trail will converge in the Pacific Northwest to compete at the Columbia River and highlight the area’s excellent smallmouth fishery.

On the heels of the recent BAM Pro/Am which launched out of Boardman, the BAM Pro Tour will now have its turn in a three-day bass battle of the west’s top pro anglers in their third stop of the season, which blasts off during the last week of July.

A top-five finalist in BAM’s recent Pro/Am, Jake Boomer of Spokane, Wash. anticipates launching into a very good bite.  And as a PNW angler, he is excited to see a pro circuit stop in his neck of the woods.

“I’m extremely grateful to BAM for bringing their event this far north with the caliber of anglers that are involved and that we get to showcase what many of us believe is the best smallmouth fishing on the West Coast,” he shared.

With the Boardman Chamber of Commerce and the Boardman Parks and Recreation behind the BAM circuit, Boomer emphasized their welcome to the anglers and the sport of bass fishing as a whole.

“They really took care of us at the last event,” he said. “It wasn’t just a welcome. They were excited we were here and asked us to come back. We were especially impressed with Geoge Shimer, the CEO of the Boardman Parks and Rec Department, who not only helped us set up, he cheered us on at every blast off. It was very cool to have that kind of support and participation at our tournament.”

Post-spawners are predicted as the predominant catch for the Pro Tour; however, Boomer doesn’t rule out a few late straggling spawners due to the late heat wave.

“Either way, with the time of year, the fish will school up and guys will really be able to catch ‘em,” he stated. “The river has always had a lot of fish. It’s just a really health fishery right now.”

The Pro Tour will focus their sights on the Boardman area alone with no access permitted to other pools.

That is a difference in this event and the Pro/Am,” he said. “That will eliminate the largemouth in the other pool that the Pro/Am guys got; but I don’t think that the weights will be too much different.”

He expects a solid 20-pound bag to be tough to beat with a big bass coming in at over five-pounds.

Boomer feels both a reaction lure as well as a finesse presentation can be the gamechanger at this event. “An A-rig is always a good player at there and like any great smallmouth fishery, a dropshot is always really tough to beat as well,” he added.

The Pro Tour will it the water on July 26, after an off-limits period that began July 1. Water access is permitted below the John Day dam. Blast off and weigh in each day will be at the Boardman Marina. Join anglers onsite or online and see who comes out on top.
