An Entirely New Era of Braided Fishing Line Has Just Arrived

“Affordable Innovation” has always been the KastKing rallying cry. Now, enter Hammer Braid—a truly new version of braided fishing line.  “Affordable Innovation” has always been the KastKing rallying cry. Now, enter Hammer Braid—a truly new version of braided fishing line.

Hammer Braid is colorfast, has nearly zero stretch, a higher knot strength, and better abrasion resistance than other brands on the market. It’s everything you want in a premium braided line and precise for any angling condition.

How is it different? It’s what happens to the fibers prior to the braiding process that sets Hammer Braid apart. Individual fibers are treated utilizing an engineered proprietary coating (EPC) process that provides multiple benefits.

“We’re pre-coloring the fibers prior to braiding, which gives us a much more color-fast product,” says KastKing product development specialist Rex Nelson. “Most companies are coloring the product as a post-braid treatment, but we’ve found the color really sets better within the individual fibers when treating prior to braiding and allows the color to be more permanently locked.” The end result is a braid that holds its color longer than competitive braids.

The individual fibers of Hammer Braid are placed under tension before braiding, which Nelson says realigns the molecular structure of the fibers, making them stronger.

“The more you stretch the fibers, the stronger they become,” says Nelson. “When you put those fibers together, you end up with an overall better straight-pull strength with Hammer Braid.”

“Braids are measured by the number of times the fibers cross over one another in one inch of material,” Nelson says. “Most braids on the market are averaging 18-20 crossovers per inch, but Hammer Braid is at 24, so we have a considerably tighter weave. This tighter braid makes it smoother, more compact, and gives it a rounder profile.

In practical application, Hammer Braid is a power angler’s dream, perfectly defining MLF Pro Tour veteran Cliff Crochet’s fishing style. The Louisiana native cut his teeth fishing the Atchafalaya Basin; therefore, he’s no stranger to manhandling obstinate bass from extremely thick cover. He’s found improved knot strength with Hammer Braid, particularly in the heavier test weights of 65-pound test and greater when punching thick mats of vegetation.

“I’d use a chain when punching mats if I could get away with it because I want the strongest line possible in that situation,” says Crochet. “The trouble I’ve had with heavy braids in the past is they get too thick to hold a good knot consistently. Because Hammer Braid has a thinner diameter, it holds the knot very well”.

Crochet “downsizes” to 50-pound test braid when fishing swims jigs, buzz baits, and lipless crankbaits around cover, noting the smooth texture of Hammer Braid allows for long, quiet casts.

“I really like the feel of Hammer Braid in my hands,” he says. “It’s not super slick like some of the coated braids on the market, but it’s also not too coarse when passing through the rod guides. To me, it just has a good texture and feel”.
