Exposed Elite Angler Casey Scanlon at Toledo Bend

ProPatterns Exposed returns on March 4, featuring for the first time Elite angler Casey Scanlon. The Exposed crew followed Scanlon as he took on Toledo Bend during the second practice day leading up to the 2014 Evan Williams Bourbon Bassmaster Elite at Toledo Bend.

The Lenexa, Kansas native has been building his professional credentials over the past four years, working the Elite trail and making the money cut nineteen times. Career highlights to date include Scanlon’s win in April 2012 at the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open at Table Rock; a runner-up finish in February 2011 at the Bass Pro Shops Central Open at Lake Lewisville, third-place finishes at the 2013 Elite Series Ramada Quest at Bull Shoals and at a PAA event at Table Rock that same month; as well as a seventh-place finish at the 2011 Bass Pro Shops Central Open #3.

Scanlon’s passion for fishing emerged in his youth, as he fished club tournaments and worked odd jobs to purchase one boat after another, with the goal of one day having the skills and horsepower to fish professionally. That dream came true in 2011 when Scanlon was invited to join the Bassmaster Elite Series.

Scanlon filmed with ProPatterns Exposed for the first time in 2014 at Toledo Bend during the second practice day leading up to the tournament. The entertainment series Exposed takes fans behind the scenes with the pros, each episode following one Elite angler for an entire day of practice and filming as they offer insight into how to study patterns and conditions, strategize for the tournaments, and achieve long-term success on the tournament trail. No other online series takes viewers so deep behind the scenes or offers such candid access to the pros while they do the heavy lifting that ultimately leads to tournament success.

Exposed joined Scanlon after he already had one full day of practice on Toledo Bend. The Toledo Bend reservoir is considered by many anglers to be one of the top fisheries in the United States. The fertile post-spawn waters, Scanlon explained during filming, provided ample opportunities for shallow water fishing, but the secret to winning, he surmised, would be going deep.

Exposed followed Scanlon as he traversed and eliminated water, trying to “unlock the secret to success” on the lake under the shifting conditions. He found fish with jerk bait time and again, and to his chagrin, caught several tournament-winning fish—fish anglers would rather catch during competition days.

The tournament proved challenging for Scanlon and several other Exposed pros but was ultimately won by Jacob Powroznik, who will appear in May on Exposed. Chad Morgenthaler, who appeared on Exposed in January, followed right behind Powroznik by less than two pounds. Several other Exposed pros landed not far behind them on the leader board at the end of competition. As the roster of Exposed anglers increases year after year so to do the odds of these anglers dominating the leader board of every Elite tourney and Classic competition.
