The Top Three Anglers All Using Winn Technology

The top three anglers in the recent Bass Pro Tour REDCREST championship all shared the qualities that make up a successful angler: tenacity, concentration, next-level awareness of their surroundings, passion for their craft, and an innate ability to put fish in their boat.  They also all shared one important piece of gear – Winn grips.

1st Edwin Evers – Johnny Morris Platinum Signature rods from Bass Pro Shops

2nd Greg Hackney – Hack Attack Lew’s Speed Stick rod & reel combos from Academy Sports + Outdoors

3rd Greg Vinson – Custom-built MHX rods from Mud Hole Custom Tackle

Edwin Evers used the Johnny Morris Patriot Casting Rod from Bass Pro Shops to win the event along with its $300,000 prize. The catch, weigh, and immediate release format of the Bass Pro Tour puts a premium on making as many casts and catching as many bass in a day as possible.  Evers proved to be the best at it – not only in this event, but also during the entire season.  He won the season-long point championship in this inaugural season of Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour as well.

In the REDCREST final Evers caught 63 “scoreable bass” to win the event, including a run of 22 fish in just 23 minutes.  He kept his Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Platinum rods busy.

Greg Hackney finished second in the REDCREST using his signature series Hack Attack Speed Stick line of Lew’s rods and reels. “These rods are specific for the technique you are using and they have Winn grips,’” said Hackney.   “That’s just super comfort in your hands all day.  When your hands are wet you don’t have to worry about them slipping.”  The Louisiana pro added “Fishing rods are like golf clubs.  You have to have one for every distance and every hole.”

Given Winn’s 40-plus year history making tennis and golf grips, we couldn’t agree more Greg!

In third place was Greg Vinson who competed with custom rods he built at his Wetumpka, AL home. He built all of his rods with the MHX-brand Winn grips.  “I love these grips and they’re one of the biggest benefits I’ve enjoyed since I began building my own rods this year,” said Vinson.  “The MHX split grips are the best feeling grips I have ever used.”

Vinson learned to build his own rods with instruction and supplies from Mud Hole Custom Tackle.

Whether an angler’s favorite place to purchase rods is Bass Pro, Academy Sports + Outdoors, or wherever quality rods are sold, or built by the custom rod builders across the country, Winn technology is always at the ready to help anglers catch more fish, and have more fun doing it!

Winn technology is currently utilized by the following fishing brands: Lew’s, Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris, Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Denali, MHX, St. Croix, Penn, Ugly Stik, Kistler, and other fine brands.

ABOUT WINN

Winn is the first manufacturer to bring premium polymer rod grips to fishermen. Its pursuit of the most technologically advanced rod grips mirrors Winn’s pioneering efforts in golf, tennis, and bicycle grips and wraps. Winn grips facilitate the learning, enjoyment, and performance level of participants at every level – in every field it enters!

We start with polymer grip technology. Our multiple polymer compounds are tackier and more comfortable than traditional cork or EVA. Each polymer is uniquely formulated to achieve a different firmness, texture and weight to satisfy the individual needs of the sports participants it serves.

By creating extremely comfortable, slip-resistant grips that reduce stress on hands and body, we enable participants to lighten grip pressure, increase control, enhance accuracy, distance, sensitivity, and performance over extended periods of participation. For fishermen, the end result is longer casts, increased sensitivity, reduced fatigue, heightened casting accuracy and, above all, increased hours of enjoyment and high-performance fishing.
