Inventors often lack the business and, marketing expertise, connections, and resources to scale their business and grow it past the kitchen table. Former Bassmaster Emcee and marketing consultant, Keith Alan and his business partner Brad Nickel are addressing that problem by providing a fishing business education for free via their newly launched Fish Biz – The Business of Fishing Podcast.
Keith Alan, best known for his role as host and content creator for a number of Global sports marketing events including ESPN’s X Games, Bassmaster and the Redfish Cup series has spent the last decade and a half advising companies in the fishing industry on marketing, video content production, and product strategies.
Brad Nickel, a tech industry executive and product innovator has spent years advising entrepreneurs around the world on how best to get their products to market and in the hands of consumers.
In 2015 Alan and Nickel teamed up under the Mark 5 Strategies banner to apply their knowledge and expertise to startups in the fishing industry. They orchestrated a highly successful company development and product launch for Trapper Tackle at ICAST in 2016 that resulted in an ICAST New Product Showcase Best of Show Award in the Terminal Tackle category and products for sale in stores nationwide.
This summer, the team launched Fish Biz – The Business of Fishing Podcast to share insights and stories from which others can learn. Each episode focuses on a topic relevant to anyone interested in growing a brand in the Recreational Sportfishing Industry. Featured guests share stories of successes and monumental failures to help the audience gain knowledge and insight as they grow their companies.
“Our experiences over years of working these events made us realize that a lot of companies struggle with trade shows”, stated Nickel. That observation prompted a multi-part series on the podcast called Successful Trade Show Strategies.
In this week’s episode titled How to Win the New Product Showcase, Alan and Nickel welcome Ken Duke from Fishing Tackle Retailer to the podcast.
