WaveSpin adds MicroWave Guide System

Award-winning reel company perfecting the spinning rod too for intro at ICAST

Tackle inventor Doug Hannon hasn’t been idle since the patent, production and now growing success of eight tangle-free WaveSpin spinning reel models. In his search for the perfect cast he saw the need to eliminate something every spinning rod has.

“I’ve wanted to perfect the dynamics of the cast and ‘ stop’ the line’s wide helical — the corkscrew spiraling — and eliminate the distance robbing line slap as it goes through the first, second and successive guides,” said Hannon also known as “The Bass Professor.”

“I knew we could improve performance for longer, smoother more accurate casts as the line leaves the reel at 22,000 RPM.  And we have,” he smiled.

The MicroWave Guide was first introduced on CastAway Rods and designed into six spinning rods, many matched with WaveSpin Reels. Anglers who tried the CastAway/ MicroWave design, on 6 ½ – 8 ft. rods voiced their approvals on many fishing blogs and forums:

  •  “Absolutely a noticeable difference, definitely casts farther and smoother.”
  •  “The guide was designed for longer more accurate casts and it makes a noticeable difference there, but I think it may help prevent wind-knots too because it stops line oscillations early.”
  •  “With the MicroWave guide the cast is MUCH smoother, longer, and more accurate.”
  •   “The guide really keeps wind knots down and gives you smoother quieter casts. The rod is bulletproof and is one of the best rods I have ever owned. The guide is great and I want it on every spinning rod I own from now on.”

MicroWave Guide evolves into complete system; introduction at ICAST in Orlando

But Hannon knew he could tweak the proficiency of the cast even more.

“No matter what nylon, braid or fluorocarbon lines they use, anglers will feel a noticeable difference in casting and in using lighter finesse type baits.”

The new Doug Hannon MicroWave Guide System by American Tackle will debut this July at ICAST 2012 trade show in Orlando and be on the market in that same month as well.

“Several nationally known brands of rod builders have approached us. Incorporating the MicroWave Guide System, will add a new class of spinning rods to their product lines and be a dramatic step over traditional spinning rods. This guide system will be great on any spinning rod using any spinning reel, but an extra special match when used with a WaveSpin Model.”

The lightweight bodies on all eight models (8 to 12.5 oz) hold a variety of line capacities and each drag operates on a lifetime waterproof lubricant Hannon engineered and perfected.

WaveSpin (and MicroWave soon to follow) is marketed in major sporting and fishing goods stores such as Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s and independent tackle stores nationwide. 1. Chuck says:

First of all, I must say that I have all due respect for Doug Hannon and all of the work he has put into promoting bass angling over many years. He has certainly helped recreational fishing grow as it has.

However, there is nothing wrong with a little ethical competition. But I firmly believe our fellow anglers deserve to understand the facts; especially when it comes to their gear and new gear innovations. All I ask is you assert the facts of comparison and give the consumer the opportunity to experience the best product suitable. It is this comparison baseline that you have not yet put out there. For example, claiming the Microwave rod casts further doesn’t mean anything unless you compare it to the same rod with a different guide configuration utilizing exactly the same terminal tackle weight and line & reel setup. This is precisely how the Tru-Flo testing was performed.

Incidentally, since 2009, there have been numerous assertions that the Microwave guide carries patent pending status and sometimes patent status. Apparently, it isn’t patented. The Tru-Flo product is patented and has been for more than 10 years. So, when you assert that the Tru-Flo product may have some of the advantages of the Microwave product, you are conveying a distorted perception of original art. Again, I believe the consumer should know this.

  2. Russ Riley says:

We would gladly put your data up against both ours and that of the expert testers at Mud Hole & American Tackle, the second largest rod guide company in the world. Unlike you sir I am not about to put down Tru Flo as you feel so willing to do with other products other than your own. Without a doubt Tru Flo does indeed have its place and possibly some of the benefits of MicroWave. Tru Flo is intended to work, as you have openly stated to others, on standard off the shelf spinning rods with their heavy guide systems. MicroWave offers the unique advantage of being a complete guide system that employees light weight running guides throughout the length of the rod for the lightest, most sensitive performance in the industry. The MicroWave Guide System by American Tackle and Patent Pending by Innovator Doug Hannon simply can not be improved upon.

  3. Chuck says:

There has been plenty of hype regarding the Microwave Guide concept, so I obtained some and did objective comparison testing for distance and accuracy. Without going into the stats of hundreds of casts, I can say that the Microwave system consistently performed poorly when compared to conventional spinning rods and spinning rods with that new Tru-Flo guide system. The Tru-Flo showed overwhelming improvements (20% – 30%) over conventional gear. Apparently, the Tru-Flo guide concept has been around years before the Microwave idea was conceived.
