Have you noticed the declining weights in Delta bass tournaments? The lack of salmon and a salmon season in 2008/2009? Have you notice the reduced numbers of striped bass and sturgeon? What do you think about the precipitous drop in bait fish (Sacramento SplitTail)? And other fish (Delta Smelt) which support the health of all fisheries?
These are all signs of an unhealthy ecosystem.
The amount of water exported from the Delta has increased significantly over the past 9 years and certain powerful interests like the Metropolitan Water District, the Kern County Water Bank, and the Westlands Water District are working to take more water through a new pipe.
The fish in the Delta need water flows to be restored in order to survive. Delta communities also need water flows to be restored to thrive.
Now is the perfect time to unite with other fishermen to protect our favorite fishery: the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta.
Please join us on April 3rd 2011 for a Benefit Bass Tournament at Russo’s Marina.
The event will benefit Restore the Delta and the California Sport Fishing Protection Alliance to continue the fight to protect the flows necessary to keep the Delta ecosystem alive.
Two thirds of the entry fee will be a tax deductible donation to Restore the Delta and the California Sport Fishing Protection Alliance. The remaining one third will be paid back 100%. Multiple 100% payback options will be available.
A BBQ and raffle will take place at the weigh-in to give back to our anglers.
There will be three divisions, each competing for a separate pot of money.
Check-In Begins: 5:00 AM
Launch: Safe Light, 6:15 – 6:30.
