Singer/songwriter, guitarist, television personality, professional sportswoman, activist and mother, GRETA GAINES, will release Lighthouse & The Impossible Love on May 14, 2013, on her own Big Air Records.
Gaines grew up fly fishing in New Hampshire and has been blessed to fly fish world over as a professional fly fisherman. She has been featured on Outdoor Network, Oxygen, ESPN (as a host of her own branded segments “Bass Basics”), and also the now defunct “Bass Center” on ESPN 2. She hosted and competed in the very first Women’s Pro Bass Fishing Tour on ESPN 2. Gaines has fly fished and performed live on Guide House Montauk, ESPN 2, Bass Center, and New American Sportsman. As a writer she has contributed as a fly fishing journalist to the Atlantic Salmon Journal.
Her professional snowboarding career began in 1982 in New Hampshire, on the prototype “Burton Boards”. Greta competed against 19 men in the first ever World Extreme Snowboarding Championships in Valdez, Alaska in 1992 becoming the first woman ever to compete in extreme snowboarding. Then, from 1993 to 2003 Gaines founded and ran the first all women’s snowboarding camp called “The Wild Women’s Snowboarding Camps”. She executed many first descents and encouraged women to break their fears by learning to lead while snowboarding. Her photos and articles on her as a pro-snowboarder have been featured in TransWorld Snowboarding, Snowboard Life, National Geographic Adventure magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Women’s Sports and Fitness, Hooked on the Outdoors, Jane Magazine, and many more!
Lighthouse & The Impossible Love, her 5th studio effort, is the follow up to her 2008 Justice Records release, Whiskey Thoughts, which was lauded by Vintage Guitar Magazine as “one of the best records of 2008” and went to number one on Sirius/XM for most plays. The new CD is her most fully realized effort to date; it is personal, honest and raw.
Gaines has played Lilith Fair and toured as the opening act for Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, The Mavericks, Tori Amos and DJ Phillipe Solal in Europe. She also performed at the 2003 Farm Aid. Her music has been licensed by ESPN, MTV, Oxygen Network and more as well in the soundtracks for “The Hottest State” and “Virgil Bliss.” She appeared on “Good Morning America” in 2008 behind Whiskey Thoughts.
Gaines lives in Nashville with her husband and two sons.
