The world’s largest sportfishing trade show returns to Las Vegas, July 13-15

Alexandria, VA – July 5, 2011 – From July 13-15, the global sportfishing industry will converge on the Las Vegas Convention Center for the 54th International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, which is better known as ICAST. Produced by the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the sportfishing industry’s trade association, ICAST represents the cornerstone of the sportfishing industry and helps to drive sportfishing companies’ product sales year-round.

“In this business environment, people have to be smart about where and how they do business,” said ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman. “Our show registration numbers indicate that exhibitors and attendees believe that ICAST is a smart business choice. Each year, ICAST attracts thousands of members of the sportfishing industry to see the latest innovations in gear and accessories and network with key industry leaders, all under one roof.”

ICAST is the only place where buyers and media can see sportfishing manufacturers’ entire product lines; save money and time by taking advantage of ICAST-only product specials offered by more than 100 exhibitors; attend business-related seminars; network with industry leaders and entrepreneurs; visit the ASA Resource Center and learn about sportfishing’s future with KeepAmericaFishing™; and help shape the 2011 consumer market by voting in the New Product Showcase for the “Best of Show” awards in 21 product categories and the overall “Best of Show.”

There is no doubt that the single most important feature for exhibitors and attendees is the New Product Showcase, which is ICAST’s flagship feature. The Showcase provides buyers and media representatives a special opportunity to preview hundreds of next season’s innovations in fishing gear, accessories, boats and apparel debuted by ICAST 2011 exhibitors. Buyers and credentialed media will evaluate each new product and vote for them based on their innovation, execution, workmanship and practicality. The New Product Showcase “Best of Show” winners will be announced during the Chairman’s Industry Awards Reception, sponsored by Frabill, Inc., on Wednesday, July 13, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., in Ballroom N250 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

During the annual Industry Breakfast that will kick off the show’s opening on Wednesday morning, July 13, Nussman, Jeff Marble, CEO, Frabill, Inc. and ASA’s Board of Directors chairman, and Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation President and CEO Frank Peterson will outline the state of the sportfishing industry. This year’s guest speaker is Michael Colopy, a world-recognized authority on global political and economic agendas, and an expert on China. He will provide an overview of the trends that will have an impact on global trade. Tickets are required. The breakfast is being held from 7:30 a.m. – 8:45 a.m., in N250 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Other exciting highlights at ICAST 2011 are the Casting Area, Casting Pond and Lure Tank. These spaces on the show floor allow exhibitors to demonstrate their latest innovations in lures, reels and rods. A full list of show highlights and events is posted on ICASTfishing.org. ICAST offers wide-range of free business seminars for attendees and exhibitors that focus on the challenges facing the industry and what can be done to help keep our waters open to recreational fishing; an update on design and utility intellectual property protection; an overview of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act; and how traditional advertising still applies in a social media world. The POMA/ASA Homer Circle Fishing Communicator Award recognizes an outdoor journalist who exemplifies extraordinary talent, dedication to sportfishing and commitment to mentoring the next generation of sportfishing communicators displayed by legendary outdoor journalist and fishing legend, Homer Circle. The award will be presented during the New Product Showcase Preview reception on Tuesday evening, July 12.
