MAUI JIM ARRIVES AT ICAST 2013 WITH NEW SUNGLASSES FOR WATER SPORTS

Maui Jim PurpleLahaina, HI, July 2, 2013 – With the numbers of anglers and boaters increasing by double digits over the past five years, Maui Jim will arrive at ICAST 2013 in Booth 2018 with a full collection of high-tech sunglasses specifically designed for the water.

The company’s ON THE WATER Collection of 24 sunglasses offers features and benefits that combat the sun’s harsh rays and glare while on the ocean, lake, river or stream. Four new styles have been added to the collection since last year’s ICAST.

Each style in the ON THE WATER Collection uses technologies that are designed to work with different face sizes and shapes to shield eyes when enjoying time on the water. Features of these sunglasses include bigger lenses; a snug fit; anti-corrosive, spring hinge hardware; oleophobic lens coatings to repel water and grease; scratch-resistant properties; a variety of lens materials for different water sports; lens colors for various light conditions; and the option of prescription lenses in most styles.

Unique to all Maui Jim sunglasses is PolarizedPlus2® lens technology that protects eyes on both sides of each lens. This technology reduces 99.9 percent of harmful glare from any flat, smooth, or shiny surface, which makes it possible to see below the surface of water, an invaluable feature for boaters and fishermen. Additionally, Maui Jim sunglasses cut 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays. Each style in the ON THE WATER Collection has unique, bi-gradient mirror technology that adds protection from light through the top and bottom of each lens – basically, Maui Jim sunglasses squint for you to reduce eye fatigue.

Lens color is not a style feature. It is a functional feature. Maui Jim is the only company whose lenses have up to nine layers of advanced protection including color-enhancing components that heighten definition and produce noticeably truer, more vivid colors. For water sports, Maui Jim offers three distortion-free lens colors in its newest styles to maximize performance in various light conditions. Neutral Grey lenses offer the maximum level of light reduction without color distortion for bright, sunny days. HCL® Bronze lenses have a versatile, warm brown tint suitable for any activity and designed to improve vision in variable light conditions. Maui HT™ is a high-performance, palm green color that lets the right amount of useful light into the eye to improve definition and depth perception without losing polarization efficiency. The lenses have waterproof, oleophobic and scratch-resistant coatings to shed water, repel smudges and reduce scratches.
Hot Sands (Style #426, $189 US MSRP) features a new unisex aerodynamic design that embeds the company’s patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology into a sleek, flexible sunglass that offers full-eye coverage with superior fit, durability and anti-slip features.

“With Hot Sands, we’ve dialed up the aggressive styling with a strong brow detail and thicker temples to add durability,” said Richard Walker, Maui Jim’s Director of Product Development. “This style can withstand the most rugged sports, but is packed with our advanced lens technology that offers superior clarity, glare reduction, UV protection and color enhancement for water sports.

Hot Sands has a sporty, form-fitting, Grilamid frame that is highly durable and flexible. The non-slip Rubberon temple inserts provide extra grip for a more secure feel, and adjustable nose pads prevent slippage. These sunglasses come in Gloss Black with Neutral Grey lenses, Blue with Neutral Grey lenses, Rootbeer with HCL Bronze lenses and Translucent Matte Grey with Maui HT lenses. Hot Sands has an eye size of 71 mm, bridge size of 16 mm, temple length of 116 mm, and an 8-base curvature for full wrap coverage that fits snugly around the face.
Hot Sands is not available in prescription.

Also appearing in the collection is Third Bay (Style #268, $229 US MSRP), named after the largest and most powerful of three surf breaks at Pohoiki Beach on Hawaii’s Big Island. Third Bay has a sleek, wrap-around shape that complements larger, oval faces. The unisex, lightweight, high-grade injected nylon frame has wider temples to block light from the sides. SuperThin (ST) Glass lenses come in two colors: Neutral Grey and HCL Bronze. The frames have anticorrosive spring hinges and built-in embedded rubber nosepads for long-wearing comfort. Frames come in Black Gold or Matte Tortoise and feature an eye size of 65 mm; bridge size of 19 mm; and temple length of 130 mm, as well as an 8-base curvature. Third Bay is available with MauiPassport™ prescription lenses in powers from +3.00 to -3.50 that are saltwater friendly.

Named after the company’s win of the 2011 World Cup Blue Marlin championship on the Maui Jim boat, World Cup (Style #266, $219 US MSRP) was designed with input from the company’s top championship fishing and water sport Ambassadors. Their goal was to help create a pair of sunglasses that maximize eye protection from the harsh rays of the sun while providing enhanced comfort for long days on the water. The lightweight, high-grade injected nylon frame is oversized to fully cover eyes with wider temples to block light from the sides. World Cup offers superior optics through SuperThin (ST) Glass lenses that come in three colors: Neutral Grey, HCL Bronze or Maui HT. The frames have anticorrosive spring hinges and built-in embedded rubber nosepads for added stability. Frames come in Matte Black Rubber, Chocolate Stripe Fade, Marlin and Matte Green Stripe Rubber and feature an eye size of 64 mm; bridge size of 19 mm; and temple length of 115 mm, as well as an 8-base cur vature. World Cup is available with saltwater friendly MauiPassport™ prescription lenses in powers from +3.00 to -4.50.

The clearest, calmest waters are often called Blue Water (Style #236, $219 US MSRP): because of their brilliant hues, shiny surfaces and sparkling reflections. Maui Jim’s new Blue Water sunglasses are an upgrade to the gear in your bag. The frames are made from high-gloss, high-grade nylon. The ultra-clear SuperThin glass lenses are 20 percent thinner and lighter than conventional glass lenses. This style comes in four color options: Midnight Black or Purple Stripe with Neutral Grey lenses for bright days; or Dark Brown Stripe or Sandstone with HCL® Bronze lenses for variable light conditions. Blue Water is available with MauiPassport® prescription lenses in powers from +3.00 to -5.50. This style has an eye size of 63 mm; bridge size of 18 mm; and temple length of 125 mm, as well as an 8-base curvature. Blue Water is saltwater friendly and available in prescription in powers from +3.00 to -5.50.
