Many questions exist over the Environmental Impact Report and the Delta Plan recently released by the Delta Stewardship Council. What will be the impact on local self- governance? What about flood protection and levee maintenance for urban areas? Will new regulations called covered actions be burdensome to local businesses? Will the creation of new habitat really restore fisheries? Who decides where habitat areas are created? What about private property rights? What will the impact be on farming in the Delta, our primary economy? Accredited online colleges have Environmental Studies classes for people who want to learn more about this.
Phil Isenberg, head of the Delta Stewardship Council will be addressing the Delta Protection Commission at their meeting in Stockton on December 8, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. regarding the Delta Plan. There will also be a public comment period, where locals can ask questions and make comments regarding the impact of the Delta Plan on our community.
We encourage all RTD members to take advantage of this opportunity and to attend this important meeting.
