Perennial favorites Mike Bernard and Robert Riley turned in a encore performance, once again capturing the prestigious Coors Light Angler of the Year title for the central region, and the powerhouse team of Rafael Ortiz and Stacy Gee came on strong toward the end of the season, to fend off a virtual “wolf pack” of staunch competition and win the northern region’s title.
But that was then and this is now…
All points have been reset to zero, as a new, an even more exciting Coors Light Future Pro Tour season – which begins in March at Lake Berryessa and New Melones, prepares to get underway.
Maxima Line and Mustang Survival will join the FPT’s group of premier sponsors in 2014, and provide opportunities for the tour’s legion of amateur-level anglers to become familiar with product lines that are known for their consistent quality and un-compromising safety throughout the entire fishing and boating industry.
Unfinished Classic Business
And though the regular 2013 FPT season is complete, there is still one piece of unfinished business to close for those anglers that “left it all at the lake” during last year’s grueling six-event schedule.
And that business is the FPT Classic Championship which traditionally held in November, at the end of the season, was moved to the early spring of 2014, and will be held at beautiful Clear Lake, a lake considered by many as the best pound-for-pound big bass factory in the country.
No one has to guess what the bite will be like for Classic competitors during the first week of March on Clear Lake, as in last year’s FPT season opener, it took over 32 pounds just to get into the top five, with a 35 pound five-fish limit necessary to take home 1st place honors.
But while this field of only 78 qualifying teams have no doubt that it will take a consistent bag of BIG fish to do well, you can be sure that NO ONE is quite prepared for the challenge of this qualifying championship event being held in a 3-day FLW elimination style format.
You heard correctly..78 qualifying teams will fish for two days, and after day two, only the top ten teams will remain to compete for cash, prizes, and the keys to a brand new Ranger Z118 powered by an Evinrude 150 E-tech, with Humminbird/Minn Kota electronics, and valued at over $35,000 dollars!
